About the Artist

Melissa Wasserman is a folk/pop singer songwriter based in New York City. Her influences stem from artists like Alison Krauss, Kacey Musgraves, and The Japanese House, to name a few.

Melissa has been writing songs since before she even knew she was a songwriter, making up album concepts and catchy hooks in her room, as far as typing it up in a Word document and adding designs to it. After learning a chord on the guitar in 8th grade, her songwriting took off. Melissa began playing small local gigs in her hometown of Fairfield, Connecticut, competing in singing competitions and recording her original music. She went on to graduate from Berklee College of Music with a dual degree in Songwriting and Music Therapy , and a minor in Psychology. She later also completed a Master's degree in Music Therapy.

Melissa found Music Therapy as a secondary career path in her time at Berklee, connecting with this as a way to give back, and honor a pivotal moment of her childhood-losing her older sister, Jessica at just 5 years old. Music Therapy felt like a way to honor her sister and use her gift to help others. It was the perfect 'day job' for a young artist. Now Melissa pays the bills by working as a full time Board-Certified Music Therapist in a Children's Hospital.

With her broad influences, unique life experiences with love, loss, grief and self-discovery paired with catchy hooks, Melissa's music suits a diverse range of audiences. Her music has been known to cause her listeners to shed a tear (or multiple), so listen with caution.

She recently released her debut album, "A Place That Feels like Home" in November 2025 that takes you on a journey of learning what unconditional love and true "home" feels like while navigating young adulthood and figuring out life, both alone and with someone else by your side.
